Hi, thanks for visiting my website and taking a look at my work!

I’m an artist and writer in Seattle, where I have lived for more than 30 years. I was born in Kansas City, and grew up in Pittsburgh and Hartford. Before I moved to Seattle, I lived in China for three years.

In my work, I’m excited by the possibility of using mosaic’s ancient materials and methods to find contemporary resonance and meaning. I’m interested in the rhythm and music of line, the interplay of color and gradient in the transition from light to dark, and the meaning of negative space. I believe every mosaic is a chance to explore questions about technique, art, and, often, life. Usually, a specific question serves as the starting point, but new questions always emerge as the work moves forward. Often, there is no clear answer. I like those questions best.

My mosaics have appeared in galleries and museums in Seattle, Miami, Detroit, Kansas City, Buffalo, and elsewhere. In 2023, my piece “Time and Tide No. 8” earned the Society of American Mosaic Artists’ award for Technical Distinction.

I’m also a poet. You can see my work at toddcampbellpoetry.com.
